My Mom and Dad were visiting Dryden for a week. On Wednesday night they threw me a make-shift graduation party since I missed my graduation as I was supply teaching.
Bright and early the next morning, before I was even fully awake, Scott surprised me with a big box. He told me it was a long overdue back-to-school gift {back in university he had sent me a back-to-school box filled with lots of fun stuff. He hadn't sent me one for my last year}.
First I read the card. It was the sweetest card he had ever written me. Anyone who knows Scott knows that he is a man of few words so that should have been my first clue. The card also explained that each gift within the box would represent the major milestones we have reached together. First was a key: to the house that we share. Next was a puppy swimsuit: for our "little bundle of joy," Carlos. After that, a graduation gift {a high heel bottle stopper}: for my graduation from 5 years of university and teacher's college. Then an apple: for my teaching career. Last was a little box.
Now, for as long as I have known Scott he is always making funny comments-as he does-that made me believe he was anti-marriage. Boy he fooled me. Any girl would have known immediately what was in that little box. Not me.
The sticky note on the last box said "our beautiful life together. Will you marry me?"
I think I started bawling right away...it's all a little blurry. I remember him getting down on one knee beside the bed. I remember looking at the ring, looking at the note, hugging him, and trying to process it all. Then I looked at his face and he looked concerned, that's when I realized I forgot to speak and say "yes!" So I said "yes" {obviously} to the poor man!
He took me to the kitchen where he had a bottle of champagne and two glasses waiting for us.
Later I learned the details: he waited for that moment because he wanted to include my parents in the event. He had asked their permission ahead of time and couldn't sleep for days leading up to the big question. The ring was in the basement ceiling tile for weeks before they arrived.
...he better always use his powers for good not evil, because my fiance is certainly a master of deception!
Thanks for sharing!
